MISSION
Equinity exists to improve the quality of life of underprivileged and at-risk youth by developing confidence, assertiveness, communication skills, relationship skills, and responsibility through equine-assisted psychotherapy and equine-assisted activities. Our goal is to help children in need develop critical life skills while educating them about horsemanship.
Equinity is committed to serving troubled youth and their families by providing alternative developmental and therapy programs that utilize the relationship that forms between humans and animals. We address critical issues such as behavioral issues, attention deficit disorder, substance abuse, eating disorders, abuse issues, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, and communication needs.
In addition to the work we do with at-risk youth, we also provide equine-assisted activities and therapy to a range of individuals to include the parents of troubled youth, veterans, and women.
Mystic Pope, Executive Director
Mystic has been working in the equine industry for almost 20 years and has worked as an apprentice trainer and professional trainer for the past 10 years. During her apprenticeship under Dana Gardner of Garnder Arabians, Mystic discovered therapeutic benefits that can be gained from the relationship that develops between the horse and handler. This sparked a fire that led to the desire to bring this special relationship to children that would not necessarily be able to participate in equine-related activities due to financial constraints. Thus, Equinity was born.
