More detailed information regarding how these traits and skills
are developed is available in our brochure.
Therapeutic Horsemanship
Participants learn essential skills of horsemanship such as
grooming, handling, equine healthcare, stable chores, training
from the ground, and training under saddled. The primary
objective is learning horsemanship skills; however, there can be
therapeutic benefits gained from interacting with horses. Horses
are nonverbal creatures, mirroring our energy and emotions. In
order to effectively work with a horse, the handler must be
confident and relaxed. Using the nonverbal nature and prey
instincts of horses, participants can learn how their behavior and
demeanor effects those they come in contact with, and,
ultimately, how to control themselves.
Some specific traits and skills that can be developed include:
- Confidence
- Communication skills
- Assertiveness
- Relationship skills
- Responsibility
